Remember book reports when we were in school? For some they were a dreaded terrible thing, for others they were fun ways to recall your favorite book and an easy format to tell someone what the book was about. I've decided to post some reports of the books I've read; let's jump right in.
As we know I do enjoy the neighborhood share libraries. They look like little tree houses for books😋 Most of the time when I see them I get out of the car & see what they have. I was drawn to the title & the Illustration on the cover. I said to myself 💠I wonder what this is about? I grabbed it & read it; it started off as I expected some one writing about being an asshole. Then it took an unexpected turn & I ended up relating quite a bit as well as having moments of disagreement. I even came up with some new topics to write on myself due to some of the things that were said in this book. It had it's slow moments but I enjoyed it all the same.
Author: Jim Knipfel also the author of SLACKJAW ( I didn't read that one)
Title: Ruining it for everybody
Main Characters: Jim the author, the book is about him, Grinch his best-friend, & Morgan his i'mma say girlfriend you can decide what you think their relationship is after you read it.
Setting: This book takes place mostly in New York City in the 1990's
Plot: As you probably guessed this book is about an asshole person that goes around ruining things for people. The human part is the fact that one of the boys finds that ruining things for people is not fulfilling while the other doesn't quit. This book is also about one man's self reflection & resilience with a surprising twist I never saw coming.
Personal Endorsement: There were moments I was going to put this book down because there were parts that seemed to drag like a slow movie. Just like a slow interesting movie I was compelled to finish & am glad I did. There was a part where he wrote: failure of the spirit is the most dangerous kind of failure there is, because it involves responsibility and choice. It involves inescapables like regret and guilt, which, in certain doses, can be just as deadly as kidney failure or cancer.
Whether or not I continue to ruin things for everybody remains to be seen.
This blew my mind because I can relate to the feeling of failure of the spirit. I plan on writing about a couple things that were stated in this book because some of the ways the author see's life is the way I saw it when I was in spaces in my life that consisted of unexplained darkness.
