Remember book reports when we were in school? For some they were a dreaded terrible thing, for others they were fun ways to recall your favorite book and an easy format to tell someone what the book was about. I've decided to post some reports of my favorite books; let's jump right in.
As we know I do enjoy the neighborhood share libraries. They look like little tree houses for books😋 Most of the time when I see them I get out of the car & see what they have. This time I found the second part to Mary Baker Eddy's life story. I like her story because as I said before in the first post about her, I can relate to some things in her life & I share some of her views as well.
Author: Jewel Spangler Smaus
Title: Mary Baker Eddy: The Golden Days
Main Characters: The author, Mary Baker & her Family
Setting: The years focused on the 1800's & majority of the story takes place in Bow, New Hampshire.
Plot: This book went into more detail about Mary's intimate life with her family. It gave details into how she lost her son. How she became such an Christian Science Icon; what drove her in the direction she chose, how she dealt with the trials & tribulations that visited her & her families lives.
Personal Endorsement: First I want to say that this book made me realize that Mary's family were more than likely colonizers! They got a nerve to make it seem like they came to a new land & all of a sudden there's a Indian problem. No buddy ya'll just came & settled on their land. They lookin like excuse me who TF are ya'll? Then these people just went to war with them, like we just showed up here & this land is ours. Chile took my breath away.
What I did enjoy about the book was getting a better understanding of who Mary Baker Eddy was & why she lost her son. The book stated that her effort had been to build a strong church government that would not require her to be present personally to carry on it's affairs. She said " They who know (understand) my book know me." She was referring to a book she wrote called Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures, I will read that too. Mary stated a lot of profound things such as; " The Bible is the learned man's masterpiece, the ignorant man's dictionary, & the wise man's directory."
It's safe to say i'm feeling Mary & her opinions, I will continue to study her further.
