Surviving LA part lII

    Ready, Let's Goooooo...

It was 2/19/23 & our one day voucher was up at the hotel. 211 said to call in at 11am and they would help us again. During this time I was on leave with my day job at the restaurant because I was trying to figure out if I was going to keep it along with the overnight job. I decided that I should. The call to 211 ended in them saying they didn't have anymore hotel vouchers so we would have to stay at a shelter in South Central. The catch was we had to get there by midnight to check in.

This only became a hassle because I got off at 9pm at the restaurant & It was going to take me until 12 to get there. I was going to try and get the bed anyway because I was not about to be back outside. Not to mention the crazy rain storm that was headed our way! Hubby had to go to work and didn't get off until 2am. The only way he would be able to get a bed would be if he didn't go to work. He wasn't with it and went to work and decided to call 211 the next day.

I made it to the shelter at about 11:30 pm thanks to the scooter and was able to lock down a bed. It was incredibly stupid that I couldn't hold a bed for hubby, even explaining he was at work & couldn't call out. Nope nobody gave a rats ass & he ended up just out & about until storage opened and he could get a nap! He tried calling 211 for days only to have his phone die from being on hold for so long.

There weren't many places to charge the phone so sometimes he would hang up early to avoid his phone dying. When he did get through they told him everything was full. Meanwhile I'm trying to get help from the inside. I was told I had to wait because it was a winter shelter & there weren't any case workers on site yet, but they were trying to get some. This went on for about 2 weeks, me at the shelter working both jobs & him working too plus being in & out of the storage. During week two we got a gym membership because the charging & showering situation was in the way, also it has a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and an indoor track to run on. I had no idea about the twist and turns that were on the way!

curious what happens in the weeks to come?  Stay tuned do I have a story for you!

Actual shelter photo, there were beds on each side of the walls.

The Crystal (LA Story)

This is a crazy story & another one about someone trying to get in where they think they fit in.       I was at work, at my lil retail gig and this lady walks up to the counter and says that she is clairvoyant and that she can tell I am going through some things, I shouldn't be at that job because I'm better than that and that my face is supposed to be well known. She said there are some other things that she would like to tell me. She gave me her card and asked me to come down to her shop and get my free palm reading. I know spiritual energy is real and she did touch on somethings that made me think maybe going to see her wouldn't be a complete waste of time.      A couple days later I made the appointment and went to her shop. She read my Palm, said some things that I've heard before & then asked me to pick a crystal. I picked a heart shaped one and she stated as long as I had the crystal I will start feeling better. I know that these sessions aren'

Surviving LA part II

As the LA housing search continues...      We found ourselves on the streets & out of money for a couple weeks due to the Beverly Hills swindle & the cost of staying in hotels. On day one on the streets, we both worked a night shift and spent the day sleeping in our storage unit, Day 2 was the Santa Monica/Venice beach night, sleeping in our tent & fighting a serious wind till the morning. On day 3 we fought with the wind again more severe in our tent at the Venice Graffiti walls on the beach & lost. We dramatically packed up fighting the wind the whole way & ended up camping not too far away in Penmar park. The good thing about this was that they had a bathroom available.       The hauk was out too that night it was so cold, I thought I was gonna die from hypothermia. I don't even know how I made it through the night. All I know is that I was not prepared for this! The universe carried me into day 4 & we both again worked the night shift. I worked from 10
